Atef Fawaz

Executive Director, eHealth Africa

Atef Fawaz serves as the Executive Director of eHealth Africa (eHA), providing strategic leadership and oversight for the organization’s public health, emergency response, and health systems strengthening initiatives across the African continent. With over a decade of progressive leadership experience, he guides eHA’s operations, partnerships, and programmatic innovations to ensure the delivery of scalable, sustainable solutions that improve healthcare access in underserved communities.

Since joining eHA in 2012, Mr. Fawaz has played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s technical and geographic reach. He has overseen the implementation of high-impact initiatives funded by global partners, including the establishment of eight Polio Emergency Operations Centers in Nigeria through investments from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. His leadership was instrumental during the Ebola outbreak in Lagos, where he directed rapid response operations that contributed significantly to containing the crisis. Under his guidance, eHA has extended its impact to 19 African countries, delivering programs in polio eradication, disease surveillance, outbreak response, emergency preparedness, and geospatial health mapping.

Mr. Fawaz’s leadership is defined by his ability to navigate complexity, strengthen organizational systems, and build strategic partnerships that amplify health outcomes. His experience spans operations management, cross-sector collaboration, and the development of data-driven public health solutions. Prior to eHA, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Electronic Connections Ltd., where he led organizational transformation efforts focused on process efficiency and personnel development.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Communications Engineering from the Lebanese International University and a Master of Science in Global Studies. His contributions to global health have been recognized through a service award from Rotary International and his nomination to the Kano State COVID-19 Task Force.

As Executive Director, Mr. Fawaz is committed to ensuring that eHealth Africa remains a trusted partner in advancing health security, strengthening health systems, and supporting communities to build resilient, sustainable pathways to better health.
