Jakob Wernerman

Assistant Director General, Head of Department for Humanitarian Operations, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)

Jakob Wernerman is the head of Department for Humanitarian Operations at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The Humanitarian Department manages Sida’s annual humanitarian allocation.

Prior to joining Sida, Mr Wernerman was the Head of Operations at Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), overseeing both aid-funded humanitarian-, development- and peacebuilding programmes as well as national operations aimed at managing national level crises within Sweden. This included acting as the Chair for the National Emergency Task Force on COVID-19 during 2020, as well as for the National Emergency Task Force on Forest Fires in 2018.

Jakob has also a background as both a technical expert and as a manager in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness and disaster risk reduction from various different roles within the UN-system, including for the World Food Programme (WFP), UN’s Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and UN’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

He holds a Master’s Degree in peace and conflict studies from Malmö University and additional academic qualifications in political science and economics from Lund University.
