Michel Botzung

Head of IFC-UNHCR Joint Initiative, International Finance Corporation

Michel Botzung heads the IFC–UNHCR Joint Initiative on Private Sector Solutions in Forced Displacement, established in 2023. This global program leverages the combined expertise of IFC and UNHCR to expand private sector engagement in regions affected by forced displacement. The initiative supports operational teams worldwide in designing and delivering projects, while also generating and sharing practical knowledge on the role of business in displacement contexts.

Michel has been with IFC for over 20 years, serving in leadership and field positions across North Africa, the Middle East, India, Kenya, and now Istanbul. Throughout his career, he has specialized in developing tailored and often innovative advisory solutions to help IFC clients strengthen links with local economies.

In his previous role as Fragile and Conflict Situations (FCS) Manager for Africa, Michel drove IFC’s growth in challenging markets and led the corporation’s engagement on forced displacement in Africa — notably in Kenya’s Kakuma area.
